Revisit What You Actually Want Your Life to Look Like

Life is different now. Do you feel that too?

It’s not exactly clear what this new normal is going to look like for many of us, but it is pretty clear that there’s no going back.

Things have changed. They’re continuing to change, and while this change is in process, it’s a good time to look at the change you want to experience in your life too.

As you’re doing this, it’s so so important to make sure that you’re looking at the change you actually want to see in your life.

Just about every time I speak on goal setting and creating a vision for your life, someone calls me out on this idea of building your life around what you most want.

Emily, they say. If I could do whatever I wanted, I’d be on a beach in Bora Bora sipping cocktails all day.

But the truth is, you wouldn’t be.

Every single time I walk this out with people—talking through what it would actually look like in practiceevery-single-time the person realizes that’s not actually what they want.

This idea of a beach on Bora Bora is a fake fantasy of some relaxing laid back lifestyle created as an escape from reality.

It doesn’t actually include the things that are most important to you. It doesn’t feel real or meaningful. It’s not what you actually want. And ultimately it sets you up to be unhappy.

Now, as the world is turned upside down, it’s time to revisit what it is that you actually want your life to look like.

Get back to the root of that vision by answering these 3 questions:

  1. Who do you want to be around?
  2. How do you want to spend your days?
  3. What truly matters to you most—right now?

Then start to look at how you can infuse more of this into your day to day life going forward.

Things are starting to open back up, which makes it vitally important to think through these questions now so that you create your new normal in a way that’s in line with who you are and what you most want.

Kick that fake fantasy to the curb and finally find what will make you really truly happy. You deserve it!
