How to Walk Through Your Mental Maze

Today is one of those days where I have a lot on my mind. Lots of big decisions are making me feel physically unsettled. Today is one of those high-stress-big-deal kind of days. Ever had one? I know that I want the decisions I make to feel good; after all, I want the outcome to feel good, and I know that the energy with which I make them needs to come from a clear, positive, and optimistic place. Having so much big deal stuff on my plate was leading me to feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. That’s not the decision making kind of place for me. So, I needed to do something to create a shift.

It is a beautiful day here in Cleveland, and so I needed to get myself out and moving. I decided to leave my IPod at home. I have a lot on my mind, and I needed the time alone with my thoughts. As I was walking through my neighborhood, I realized a strong desire to weave up and down the streets as if I were walking through a giant neighborhood maze. As I was doing this, I noticed a mental unraveling that was happening. It was as if my body and mind needed a physical outlet in order to work through things. As I walked, my brain clicked through some of the hot topics weighing on my mind, and I felt a burst of energy and creativity. I arrived home having cleared my head.

I had the mental and emotional clarity and the positive energy to make the decisions I needed to make without all that yucky stuff in the way. Getting outside and physically moving is a great way to create an energy shift. Doing this opens up the space for clarity and calmness. When you are feeling stressed out, frustrated, or overwhelmed, take five and get yourself up, outside, and moving. Doing this during a stressful day at work is a simple strategy to generate the shift you need to clear your mind.
