A week ago Saturday, Mark and I went to a very dear friend’s graduation celebration. While there, we were chatting with her Dad about golf. He and Mark were exchanging some golf stories…I’m too new to the game to have any stories of my own…well besides the time when I was a kid and drove the golf cart for my Papa, sure I was going to crash us into a pond full of alligators…or that time my mom went to tee off and somehow managed to hit her ball into a building wall, not at all onto the green! Anyway, he and Mark shared the best piece of golf advice they had ever received: “if you are struggling or off your game, get your best club out.”
You want to get your best club out because then you feel most comfortable, you are at ease, connected, and confident. Not only is that a great golf lesson but that is also a great life lesson! Prioritizing your self-care is like getting your best club out. When we are feeling good and well taken care of we are more comfortable, at ease, connected, and confident. When I do speaking engagements I always do what I can to get my best club out – try to get extra rest, wear a favorite outfit – whatever I can do to give me that ease and comfort so that I can feel confident.
When Mark and I went to the driving range that next morning I played around to find out which was my “best club” and I really took the time to observe what felt different for me. I felt more comfortable from the setup to the swing to the follow through. I know what my best clubs are on the golf course and at the driving range…at least for now anyway AND I know what my best clubs are in life. I know what makes me feel most comfortable, at ease, connected and confident. I know which foods, which activities, which people, and which material things (sometimes it’s fuzzy socks, sometimes a pair of fun earrings, sometimes my favorite jeans, and sometimes my sassy heels).
Take the time to find out which is your best club. One great way to do that is by participating in this next round of the 12 Day Total You Cleanse. This is a lifestyle cleanse program; it’s not just about the food. Learn how it feels when your body is at its best and learn what you can do to get yourself there and stay there. I look forward to cleansing with you. I’m ready to get my best club out, are you?
