It’s snowing today. Like real snowing. Not the kind of snowing I expected in early November. Sure, I heard mention of snow coming…I just didn’t really believe it. It seems too soon for anything more than a few flurries. I love the snow, it’s just that it’s a really late fall/winter thing and I’m still very much in early fall mode (our patio furniture is still out). If I had it my way (since clearly I know best) the snow would start either Thanksgiving Day or the day after and last just through early March. Apparently Mother Nature has her own agenda…which is okay too, but I have to confess I am now feeling a little nervous about a repeat of the epic long winter we had last year.
At the same time I feel grateful for the snow today because I am now in slow down mode. Whenever I see snow I just want to slow down and cozy up. I’ve been busy the last few months…really really busy. While all that has been going on has been fun and exciting I’ve been caught up in a bit of a frenzy and I’m grateful for the snow inspired time out. Today I was able to meet with my corporate coaching clients in the morning and then I made a corporate decision on my way home to take a time out, cozy up and settle in.
First step – stop at the grocery store. I’ve not taken much time (okay any) to meal plan, shop or cook over the past few months. It’s been much easier to wing it which is mostly code for take-out and my body is craving some home cooked goodness. Actually I was really craving this noodle and scallop dish from my favorite restaurant but I thought “hey, it’s snowing I want to stay home and I can totally make my own version of that.” So now I am feeling inspired and ready to get back on track – check out the recipe here.
Second step – clear out the clutter. I don’t know about you but when I’m really busy stuff collects everywhere and that in itself can feel overwhelming. I took the time to clean out my freezer, fridge and cupboards so I could see what I have and navigate the kitchen a little more easily. It felt liberating to toss out the old and clear some space for the new.
Third step – get cozy. I made myself some tasty hot chocolate (get the recipe here) and settled in to do something that I love – write. Now when Mark arrives home we can enjoy some quality time together and cozy up with our delicious and nutritious meal. Clean up will be easy peasy now that our environment is less cluttered and then we can settle in and watch the early fall snow fall…I might even share some hot cocoa with him 😉
