I was walking through Costco the other day and came upon a giant bottle of Avocado Oil. Exciting because I am a big fan of the nutrient dense avocado. To be honest I was not familiar with Avocado Oil but I bought it anyway because it is a high heat cooking oil and I have been looking for a good high heat option. As much as I love Coconut Oil, I don’t always want everything to have the taste that comes along with it. I love it for popcorn and roasted root veggies but wanted some good alternative options for roasting veggies such as zucchini, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. At first glance, Avocado Oil looked like a great option and so I decided to check around and do some research….I felt excited by what I found…
- Avocado Oil comes from the flesh of the avocado, just as Olive Oil comes from the flesh of olives. Avocado Oil and Olive Oil are also similar with regard to health and nutritional benefits such as: being supportive of heart and cardiovascular health, correlated with optimal fertility, and associated with maintaining a healthy weight.
- Avocado Oil is a beautiful green color and is made from the flesh of Avocados which are high in potassium, copper, folate, Vitamins B, C, E & K, antioxidants, fiber, and oleic and linoleic acids.
- Avocado Oil is loaded with Omega-Rich monounsaturated fats and a variety of antioxidants. Avocado oil is great added to a salad because it increases the absorption of carotenoids.
- Avocado Oil can be safely heated to about 500°F so it is a great option for high roasting temperatures, stir-frying, searing, and broiling.
- Avocado Oil can be used to moisturize hair and skin.
I am all in with Avocado Oil. The health benefits alone had be sold! I have found it to be great for roasting veggies, stir frying, and for adding to salads. I am excited to continue to learn and play with this new to me oil. How about you???
