It’s sunny. And beautiful. I love this time of year.

I love the warmth and the sun.

I love the connection with friends, family, and the outdoors that this time of year brings.

I enjoyed the long weekend, the “unofficial official” start to summer. And I was also reminded of my 3 Must Do Summer Self Care Tips.

#1 – SPF. This is non-negotiable, and I was reminded after just a few minutes out in the sun how important it is to be diligent to applying sunscreen. My chest fried very quickly because of past sun damage. If you are looking to explore which sunscreens are your best option, I highly recommended you check out this link to the EWG sunscreen list. I hear the debates about the dangers of sunscreen, and I get it, but it’s just not worth going bare skinned! I have tried to make my own in the past, and it either looked like I painted myself with white paint, or it just didn’t work. So, I’m leaving it up to the experts. I do love how well Frankincense helps with healing my skin. Throughout the summer, I usually keep some Frankincense and lavender in a spray bottle to help rejuvenate my skin on those days I missed a spot (yep, I’ve literally had handprints) or failed to reapply.

#2 – Hydration. Drink that H2O. It’s vital, especially this time of year. The general guideline that I follow is to drink half my body weight in ounces of water, and then I adjust as needed from there. If you’re outside and notice thirst, that’s an indicator of dehydration. My absolute favorite way to stay hydrated during the summer is to drink homemade vitamin water. Toss some of your favorites into a pitcher, store in the fridge overnight, and enjoy the light refreshing taste of your very own nutrient-infused water.

#3 – [bctt tweet=”As the temperature creeps up, enjoy foods that help your body temperature creep back down.”] Lucky for us, Mother Nature has us covered, and produces a whole host of cooling foods in the summer. Check them out at your local farmers market or in your bag from your CSA. Berries, melons and romaine lettuce are just a few of my faves!

Cheers to summer!

Emily
