1, 2, 3 I’m Unstuck and Free!

2013-12-25 04.42.07Ever feel stuck? I know I have. Ever feel like you know exactly what you want and exactly what you need to do to get there, but you are trapped by this inescapable force that holds you back? So often I work with women who know exactly what they want, but they feel totally stuck and unable to change. Change can be a scary thing because it requires you to let go of the familiar AND step into the unknown.

Think for a moment about weight loss: the way you’ve been eating has been working because you are still alive. Changing that triggers a primal response because of the uncertainty that this new “diet” plan will work as well as the old one did. This sets off all sorts of warning signals in your brain: “Danger! Danger! Is this new thing that I want safe?” Once this primal, innate response is fired up, it’s tricky to cool it down. What you’ve been doing has obviously worked so far. You’re safe and alive, aren’t you? So, your primal brain wants to know: why change?

This inner conflict is keeping you stuck. These three questions are just what you need to shake things up a bit and prepare your primal being to embrace the change. Ready? 1, 2, 3: get unstuck and free!

  1. Where are you feeling stuck?
    1. What outcome are you imagining happening?
    2. Are you imaging something bad will happen?
    3. Is it possible that something good will happen?
    4. If the good thing happens, who will support you and in what way?
  2. Are the expectations you have reasonable and manageable?
    1. If no, how can you adjust your expectations so they are reasonable and manageable?
    2. If yes, what might be blocking you from taking the next best step? Is there a thought or belief putting up a barrier?
  3. If I achieve _____________ who might be upset, unsettled, or disempowered?

Accountability and support during the change process is key. Surround yourself with people who get it, and who will have your back and hold you accountable. Our Women’s Groups will start this fall, and this is a great way to meet other women and experience the benefits of group support. Also, keep in mind that one of the greatest benefits of working with a coach is the support and accountability that you receive. I’m here and ready for you when you choose to take your next best step and embrace change!
