Are you keeping yourself stuck?

Do you ever feel like no matter what you do, you keep staying stuck in the same place?

A lot of times we know the change we want to make, but every single time we try to make it happen, we get snapped back into our same old patterns.

Change can be tough, and that’s okay, but when we’re on the right path – when what we truly want is aligned with our actions – there is also a sense of ease. It might be hard, but it also feels totally natural. Think of it like swimming with the current, each stroke requires strength, but you’re in the flow. You feel strong, hopeful, capable and determined.

All too often people think that insanely hard and total sacrifice is the only way to get to the goal. Unfortunately this is a surefire way to get stuck in the struggle. Yes, hard work and sacrifice may be required, but not in the way we’ve been led to believe.

We’re not meant to feel overwhelmed or weighed down with every move we make. It’s not necessary to gear up for some massive battle before we even begin. And it certainly doesn’t make sense to spend all of our time in battle only to be left feeling totally drained and depleted, never even getting to where we want to go! Think of it like walking in quicksand, every step we take pulls we further down and keeps us more firmly where we are. Feelings of desperation and fear dominate this space.

If you’re feeling stuck in the struggle, that means something is out of balance. If you are you ready to break free from the cycle that is keeping you stuck, here are some tips for you.

  1. Resolve the conflict. There is a part of you that doesn’t want what you think you want. That part of you likes the status quo and wants to keep things just as they are. Ask yourself, what reasons do I have to keep things the same?  Write those down and see which feel more powerful to you – your reasons to change or your reasons to stay the same.
  2. Make a decision. Half the battle is becoming aware of what is keeping you stuck. Once you have all that information in front of you, make a decision about it. Decide what that information means to you and how you want to proceed.
  3. Get into action. Now that you have all the info, and you’ve made a decision about what to do – go do it! The thinking phase is done, get back into action. The more we get out of our heads and into our body the more movement we see.

Regardless of whether you want to start a business, write a book, lose 10 lbs, change careers, travel the world or welcome a baby into your family – all parts of you have to be on board! It’s really amazing sometimes what parts of us want to stay the same and the reason why…I promise you there is always a really good reason!

P.S. In the comments below I’d love to know what surprising (and really good) reason did you have to keep yourself in the status quo? And what did you decide to do about it?
